Why You May Benefit From This

My name is Anne-Kathrin and I am one of the founders of HiSensitives. In this post, I am sharing 5 ways that I use to relax when I am feeling overwhelmed. When I was younger, I did not know that I was a HSP and accordingly I was not aware of my needs as well as I am now. Now, I know that I need to take time to recharge my energy in order to thrive in life. The methods I mention below, help me to gain this energy. I hope they do as much for you as they do for me!

1. Use Guided Meditations From Youtube

My number one relaxation method is to listen to meditation videos on youtube. When you type ‘guided meditation’ into the search tab on youtube, hundreds of pages with useful videos and soundtracks pop up which can help you to relax! By laying down somewhere quiet and simply listening to relaxing music and voices, you surely will become calm! Also when you are not able to find a quiet place, simply put on your headphones, close your eyes and imagine you are somewhere else. Give it a try with this wonderful meditation:

2. Write In A Journal

I know it sounds cliché, but believe me, it works perfectly for me! Whenever my head is filled with thoughts about different situations and I feel that it affects my body, I grab my diary and sit down for a while to sort my thoughts. In this way, it is out of my system and I am feeling more at ease afterwards. At the same time, you have something to look back on later when you are older. Nowadays, the variety of diaries in stores is huge. Might as well buy a diary that fits your personality, right?

3. Take A Powernap

When I am truly exhausted, I usually lay down and sleep. Sometimes, I combine listening to a meditation clip with this activity. Afterwards, when I wake up, I feel so refreshed! A nap of 30 minutes to one hour can do wonders for your body and soul, believe me.

4. Listen To Music

Listening to music also helps me to relax when I am feeling tense. Usually, I tend to listen to slow beats at those moments. Spotify has many nice lists for different moods. How about trying this one?

5. Be Creative

Being creative in situations where you are feeling tense, can result in beautiful products. I am usually using my creativity in the form of music; playing the guitar and singing out my heart helps me to express the tension that I feel. Also other hobbies such as cooking, baking, drawing or beauty help me to take some time for myself. Try to find a way where you can express your feelings in the best way possible while having fun.
