No matter what anyone on LinkedIn telling you, working more doesn’t actually get you ahead in the game. All it does is just leave you stressed out and yearning for a personal life.

More and more people are being lied to that working longer hours is going to get them farther in their career, and it’s going to get them more money. There is also this belief that working longer also means that they’ll be able to catch up. But in reality, all of this is further from the truth.

Work addicted people, also known as “Workaholic” are people who believe they’ll get further the more they put in towards their jobs. This is currently considered a socially acceptable addiction that many believe it’s great to brag about.

Almost as if it’s some sort of trophy stating “hey, I work harder than you”. This mentally is far from healthy and it’s just another addiction. If you’re facing this type of addiction, then these tips for breaking off this addicted relationship to work just may help you out.

Working Too Much Leads To A Decline In Health

Shows and movies oftentimes depict this. However, it’s very realistic. A lot of addictions such as substance abuse are due to work.

Whether it’s drugs to keep themselves awake and energized, or alcohol to drown out the work stress, one addiction can lead to another. In these cases, it’s important to figure out whether or not you have any other addictions.

You need to focus on your health. Having a work addiction tends to lead to neglect of physical and mental health. This includes skipping out on nourishing meals for something that’s quick and convenient, or maybe not even eating any food at all.

Other aspects of declining health can include needing ptosis eyedrops from staring at a computer screen for hours at a time. Lack of sleep is another very common health-related side effect due to work addiction.

Having A Work Addiction Isn’t Going To Help You Accomplish More

You’re not getting ahead and you’re not catching up either. Instead, all you’re doing is putting more work on yourself. Working less doesn’t mean you’re accomplishing less, in fact, you may even get to accomplish more because you’ll have the energy and the clarity to do so.

Don’t let this idea of working more than 40 hours a week be some type of badge that you should wear proudly.  You’re just throwing your time and life away for something that you may not even achieve in the end anyway.

Find More Meaning Outside Of Your Work Life

There is so much more to life than trying to make money in your job. Do you have relationships such as kids or friendships? Those are very important!

Maybe try to take up a hobby or even focus on being more health-conscious such as exercise. There are ways to enjoy exercise when you hate it, plus this is going to give you the mental clarity that you need to move forward.

Something else that can help would include using effective planning hacks. There is so much more to life than just working day in and day out.

No Matter How Hard You Work, You Can’t Please Everyone

A lot of reasons why some people become workaholics is due to the idea that they need to please and impress their bosses and colleagues. No matter how hard you work, you just can’t make everyone happy.

There are going to be some people who exist that are going to constantly demand more out of you. Why waste your time on someone like that? You need to keep your sanity intact.

You have to be transparent about yourself, what you’re capable of, and what you want to do. Look into overcoming being a people pleaser, it’ll be much easier on yourself if you try.
