Some days, it’s just too much.
You scroll the news or hear another headline, and something inside you aches. A deep, painful heartache for everything that’s happening in the world. Maybe you’ve felt it too lately, that sinking feeling that things are broken beyond repair. That what you do doesn’t matter. That you’re just one person in a sea of chaos, and how could your voice or your kindness possibly make a difference?
As a highly sensitive person, I know this feeling well.
When so many big things are happening around you, wars, injustice, genocides, greed, suffering, it’s easy to feel small. Easy to feel helpless. Easy to fall into despair. Because we feel it all. The pain of the world doesn’t just skim the surface; it hits us straight in the heart.
Sometimes, I sit with this ache. The ache for Mother Earth. The ache for innocent people who lose their lives because of decisions made by those in power. Pain for those who can’t pay their bills, who don’t know if they’ll have a roof over their heads tomorrow. Or the ache for everything that could be beautiful if only we led with compassion instead of division, generosity instead of greed, hope instead of fear.
It’s a lot to carry. And if you’re feeling heavy right now: I see you. I’m right there with you.
But even amidst this heaviness, I still believe there’s hope.
Maybe… just maybe… this is the collapse of a system that no longer serves us. Maybe this is what it looks like when old structures fall, when the darkness tries one last time to cling on before the light breaks through. Every crumbling empire in history made way for something new… something better.
And I think that’s what we’re witnessing now. The discomfort, the chaos, the grief… it’s not the end. It’s the beginning of something different. Something we haven’t seen yet, but something that we can begin to create, right here in our own small ways.
Because while we might not be able to fix the world overnight, we can make ripples.
We can choose kindness, over and over again. We can be there for a friend who’s struggling. And we can donate, share, speak up, or simply listen. Let us be the ones who show that softness isn’t weakness, and that compassion is a strength this world so desperately needs more of.
If you’re feeling hopeless, please know: this is just a stage. And every stage passes.
Keep showing up. Keep being the love, the empathy, the gentleness you want to see more of in the world. Your voice, your energy, your care… it matters. Even when it feels small. Especially then.
And if you feel guilty for focusing on your own healing or happiness when others are suffering, let me gently remind you: your peace is not selfish. It’s fuel. The world needs more grounded, hopeful, compassionate people. By taking care of your own heart, you help us all.
So breathe. Rest. Cry if you need to. But don’t lose faith.
There is still beauty to create. There is still love to give. And there is still hope.
Let’s keep holding onto that.
With love,
Anne-Kathrin
